16 Jun 2019 - Two projects to address Nangka’s need for affordable housing

SIBU: The Sarawak government has come up with two major housing projects to address the needs of Nangka folk for affordable housing.

Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapaee said about 1,000 affordable houses will be built at Mile 11, Oya Road here, which has been earmarked as a proposed satellite town known as Bandar Baru Nangka.

He said in the Kemuyang area, 813 units of affordable houses will be built to cater for the extended families of those affected by the Kampung Datu/Kampung Hilir redevelopment as part of Sibu’s renewal plans.

“The construction of Kemuyang Development Project affordable homes phase 1, which consists 186 houses, has started and is expected to be completed next year.

14 Jun 2019 - Villagers asked to practise water safety

MARUDI: Kampung Narum folk have been advised to practise water safety to protect their children during flood-prone times.

Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil said children should not be allowed to play in flood waters or the Baram River, as the water level is rising.

“The waters flow down from Central Baram, Tinjar and Tutoh-Apoh, as it has been raining non-stop within this week. As we know, Kampung Benawa has been hit by flood waters. So be aware of the water situation, especially with your young children,” he said during a Hari Raya Aidilfitri event at the village recently.

The Marudi assemblyman also advised villagers to work together and cooperate fully with their new Ketua Kaum Hassim Tobi.

01 Jun 2019 - RM600 million Projek Rakyat to be implemented: Dr Sim

KUCHING: Projek Rakyat (People’s Projects) worth RM600 million has been approved by the state government and is ready for implementation.

This was revealed by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian in a recent statement made in conjunction with Gawai Dayak and Raya Aidilfitri.

“The Projek Rakyat is being implemented by various agencies under Ministry of Local Government and Housing, in particular 26 local government authorities, local councils as well as Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID) and Housing Development Corporation (HDC),” he said.

On Gawai Dayak, Dr Sim said, “It is truly a unique celebration because it is not only a celebration by the Dayak community or a mere public holiday by the rest of the community. It is a celebration for all races.”

Touching on Raya Aidilfitri, Dr Sim mentioned that open house is basically an occasion for Sarawakians to reinforce their racial harmony and unity, as well as reflecting the best of Sarawak culture and traditions.

31 May 2019 - 276 affordable houses will be built at Permy Jaya 3

MIRI: A total of 276 affordable houses will be built at Permy Jaya 3 here this year.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, in disclosing this here yesterday, said this Sarawak government initiative under its ‘Spectra Permata’ housing scheme would involve a cost of RM56 million.

Dr Sim, however, expressed his disappointment at the federal government for its failure to provide funding for low cost housing, including this one at Permy Jaya 3. He said the Sarawak government had been asking the federal government for funding – this year and last year, but to no avail.

Therefore, the Sarawak government has decided to do its own Spectra Permata project as it could no longer wait for funds from the federal government.

“Under Spectra Permata house owners only have to pay for the price of their houses. Bigger house would probably be priced around RM160,000 and smaller ones about RM90,000.
